Product Description
When the word icheese/i is mentioned, most of us immediately think of France. We can't help it; it's a knee-jerk reaction. As excellent as are the hundreds of cheeses that originate from all corners of the globe, France is always the first country the comes to mind when discussing cheese making./pPOur French Cheese Assortment captures a good bit of French cheese culture with the four cheeses listed below. ullibChevre by Couturier:/b This classic French goat cheese is quite fresh and spreadable. Formed in the shape of a log, enjoy this cheese on salads, as a snack, or with fruit for dessert. (4 oz.)/lilibCamembert:/b This famous soft-ripened cheese from Normandie has a creamy interior beneath a fluffy (and edible) white rind. Similar to Brie, but with a slightly fuller flavor. (8.8 oz.)/lilibAbbaye de Belloc:/b We're happy to bring you this raw sheep's milk cheese from the Pays Basque region of Aquitaine (French Pyrenees). Its milk comes from red-nosed Manech ewes raised on farms adjacent to the Abbaye de Notre Dame de Belloc. (8 oz.)/lilibGruyère de Comté:/b Created by local villagers in alpine dairies called "Fruiteries", its milk comes only from iMontbeliarde/i and iTachete de L'est/i cows. Each 70+ pound wheel of raw-milk Comté is aged for at least six months, resulting in a sweet and nutty masterpiece. (8 oz.)/li/ululbliPlease note that any item temporarily out of stock will be substituted with a similar item of equal value./b/li/ulPfont color="red"BThis item is not packaged as a gift. 5 out of 5 stars Gift For Wife   August 11, 2009

Guys, if you are tired of the traditional "wife gifts", try giving this delicious assortment to her....for no reason at all...besides, who do you think gets to share it. Couple this wonderful sampler with some fresh grapes, fine olives, "Carr's" Table Water Crackers, Boars Head Sopressata...and of course (2) bottles of New Zealand's Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc....let's just say you'll have an evening to remember....Oh yes, don't forget the background music! Cheeses were fresh, top quality, and with the complementing sides, a portion that would (if you wanted to) serve 4-6 people easily.

5 out of 5 stars Delicious and stinky!   April 24, 2009

A great selection of cheeses! There were two that were quite potent and two that were milder. All four were excellent, especially with fruit and various sweet and spicy chutneys.

1 out of 5 stars Cheese must breathe   December 13, 2007

Cheese by post? Who heard of such a daft thing?! Cheese is alive...it must breathe....to wrap it in plastic and ship it is the act of a philistine!! Nobody who loves cheese and sells it would do this to it! It will arrive sweaty and slack.....the taste and texture will be compromised. br / br /For the foreign stuff you'd be better off toddling along to your local Deli and see what they have....find a Mom Pop operation and they will probably let you taste and try before you buy....and tell you all about the cheese into the bargain....online buying is NOT always best!! Buying cheese or wine in this way is barmy!! Taste is a vital part of choosing...you CANNOT 'blind buy' expect a good result....support your local Deli I say!!

3 out of 5 stars Hit and Miss   June 21, 2007

I received the four cheeses and was somewhat dissapointed because although I enjoyed 3 of the cheeses, only 2 of those 3 were meant to be served as a cheese platter (vs for cooking on the 3rd). The fourth was horrendous and I ended up throwing it away (4 other guests of mine tasted it and agreed that it was not good - we could all tell that it was not spoiled and that it was simply not a good choice for an assortment). I also agree that the assortment should have come with more information about the cheeses themselves along the lines of: You have selected this assortment, cheese names, background, taste descriptions, and serving suggestions (food and wine pairings both). All in all, one of the four cheeses was good enough to add to a watch out list so that I can hope to find it again while shopping at a local store.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent cheeses, ok service   January 17, 2007

The French cheese assortment is amazing. A selection of cheeses of a quality you cannot easily come by unless you have a great specialty gourmet store nearby. The Saint Andre is not my favorite type of cheese, but it is good on a nice loaf of crusty bread. The other cheeses in the selection are outstanding and I have received rave reviews from everyone I have served them to. Only negative is that they came extremely hot (even though they were in a cooler-type box with an ice pack that I assume had at one time been cold) and the softer cheeses were really melted. They still tasted great, but weren't as nice for presentation.
