I'm sitting at my desk at work rocking back and forth in my chair, partly because of a caffeine buzz, but mostly because of the anticipation I feel about the Twilight movie coming out this Friday. I'm 32 years old and I'm not ashamed to admit that I'm absolutely in love with the entire series. Twilight, in particular, grabbed me hook, line and sinker. I'm not a big reader - I haven't picked up a book in years. A co-worker of mine handed me Twilight one day and told me to give it a try. I have been bored with the same humdrum stuff on TV, so I thought a book may do my brain some good. The first 60 pages didn't demand my attention, but I pressed on determined to get into it so I could discuss it around the water cooler with my co-workers. To my surprise, one night I read over 100 pages. The next night, I read 200 pages. From then on, I haven't been able to stop. I read New Moon and Eclipse within a week.

I feel sorry for those of you who cannot relate to the book and criticize it as if it is supposed to be meant for more sophisticated literature snobs. Some of you even sound mad - why are you so angry? If you don't like the book, put it down, donate it to your local library or give it to someone who can appreciate the amount of imagination that needs to exist in order to even pull off a story like this today. Where is your sense of magic and wonder? Who cares if Bella isn't some Disney-like cartoon character - she isn't supposed to be. She is an ORDINARY girl, living in an ORDINARY town and something EXTRAORDINARY happens to her. Her imperfection is what makes her so perfect. So what if some of her actions are what you would consider inappropriate - if the characters did everything you would expect them too, there wouldn't be much to debate or discuss and the book certainly would not have the ability to stir up millions of people into a crazed frenzy. Everyone has a right to their own opinions. It's so cool that a story about a regular girl with a vampire boyfriend can evoke so much raw emotion. Whether you loved it or hated it - have an open mind and allow yourselves to truly experience the story - stroll in the meadow with Bella and Edward at the moment when their love for each other appears, get to know the mysterious Jacob Black, fly through the trees...

I can't speak for any of you, but this story awakened something in me. For those of you who dare to use your imaginations - read on, you will not be disappointed.

Many people have said it before me, but this book was really bad. I kept reading it, waiting for it to get better. Waiting for the googly-eyed teenagers to come back to the real world and for the story to start. Unfortunately, it doesn't happen until the very last few chapters. And even then, it's just not that good. Even the romance had no real chemistry. This book was recommended to be by one of my favorite Youtubers, but I have to disagree. I don't see how any independent, intelligent female could possibly like Bella Swan. I kept waiting for her to grow a spine and wake up. I really wanted to slap her! if this is the kind of book that modern teenagers are dying to read, I really fear for the future of this country. Maybe this book would make good kindling this winter...

Bella is annoying, selfish and not a good role model for girls. I'm not sure why she is so helpless and needy, but she is... and unnecessarily so! I like the NA theme and read 3 of the 4 books as a screening process for my kids, but I will have to discuss what a strong and healthy lead character should look like and why the sudden infatuation with a boy without much thought is common among teenagers, but in the long run it is not healthy.

I wish Stephenie Meyer would have wrote a strong lead female character, but I'm not sure if it's the strong patriarchy stressed in the LDS religion that influenced her character development of a helpless needy girl that needs the strength of men to protect her or what. But it isn't the best book I've ever read, but I enjoy the NA theme and the discussions about selfishness, independence, and healthy relationships that I can have with my kids.

I was told this would be a good "mental break" for me. Instead, I found myself criticizing everything from Edward's ridiculous perfection to Bella's constant whining. Where is the story? Why did it take 400 pages to describe Edward's beauty, and his angst-ridden relationship with Bella? Did Meyer ever study a plot line in highschool literature class? And I can't seem to find any depth in these characters, either. They just exist, matter of factly, like Meyer doesn't even care that we don't know them. These are HER imaginary friends, and I have to say I agree with her that I can't see why anyone other than her likes this story.

All in all I found the love story in Twilight to be so ridiculous that I could hardly enjoy it. A story has to be somewhat grounded in reality to be good, and this just... wasn't. I actually found it rather insulting as a woman to have been expected to swoon over this story.

This is a great book I had it done in 4 days, I hated to set it down. I would definatly recommend buying this book, you will not be disapointed.
