Good for starters January 7, 2009
This is good for learning/practicing to decorate with frosting. The frosting tends to come out of the battery operated pen sort of slowly. My daughter is having increased interest in helping in the kitchen and I think this will be a good tool for starting out.

Easy Bake Decorating Pen Kit January 7, 2009
I purchased this for my 7-yr-old daughter, along with the Easy Bake Oven and other EB accessories (all made for 8+ years but there is usually no issues). We were very excitd to use this-we read the instructions and went out and bought some wax paper, frosting and some sprinkles so we could begin making cute little star-shaped cakes. I was very disappointed with this frosting pen. After opening the box and looking at the pen and accessories, we saw what a hassel it would be to use it and put everything right back in the package. We didn't have a lot of time to devote to this, but when we are ready and have an entire afternoon to bake cakes we will finally break out the pen. Also, it would have been a bit nicer if the kit had come in a reusable plastic tote. I am only giving it 2 stars right now because of all the pieces-maybe when we actually use it we'll appreciate the purchase.

Fun way to decorate December 27, 2008
I got this for my daughter for Christmas to go with her Easy Bake Oven. Unfortunately I did not have any frosting on hand so I made some. It was a bit on the runny side so it did not hold it's shape while frosting but you could see that if it was a bit thicker it would be really nice. The product seems very sturdy and although there are a lot of parts to clean it is easy to take everything apart. Overall a good buy and I would consider using it myself.

Rarely does any toy live up to the images of delighted children printed on the product packaging, but the Easy Bake Decorating Sensation Frosting Pen does just that. Right out of the box on Christmas Day, my 8-year-old daughter decorated a dozen cupcakes with the pen. She was thrilled with the results, and proudly served the cupcakes to our whole family. She even talked about having a cupcake party for our 5-year-old's birthday in January.

The Easy Bake pen is very simple to use, and the design eliminates a lot of the mess that comes with cake decorating. Instead of bags, the pen uses frosting cartridges which are threaded on one end to allow attachment of different tips. There are three cartridges included, along with four decorating tips. The cartridges are easily inserted into and removed from the pen, allowing for quick color changes. Tips screw on and off easily, too.

Fill a cartridge, add a tip, attach the cartridge, and press the button. It's that simple. The frosting takes a few seconds to get down to the tip, but once it does, the flow of frosting is smooth.

I'm no professional, but I've decorated many birthday cakes using a Wilton cake frosting set. One of the most difficult parts of cake decorating for me was mastering the continuous pressure needed to produce a uniform line of frosting. This can be especially tough for kids, too. The beauty of the Easy Bake pen is that it applies the pressure for you. Using a tiny gear and motor, the pen slowly moves the plunger in the frosting cartridge, creating a nice continuous flow of frosting at the press of a button. This allowed my daughter to focus on making designs, without frustration. The included tips are the same standard shapes I have in my cake decorating kit, so she can make designs "just like mom."

One of my favorite things about the pen, and one which really cuts down on the mess, is the way the cartridges are filled. The pen comes with three discs, each with a threaded hole in the center, which fit into standard ready-made frosting containers. (A container with a lid is also included for homemade frosting.) The disc is placed into the frosting container and the threaded end of the cartridge is attached to the hole in the disc. By pulling on the plunger, the frosting is drawn up into the cartridge from the cup, like a big syringe. My daughter was able to do this easily after only a little help from me to get started.

We tried the pen with both ready-made and homemade frosting, and both worked equally well. Cleanup is very easy as the cartridges can be disassembled completely. The pen unit can't be immersed in water, but it appeared to be completely sealed, and wiped clean easily.

We had a little extra frosting in one of the cartridges, so we put the whole thing in the fridge so my daughter can do some more decorating today, and we don't even have to get out the frosting!

Overall, I'm very impressed with the Easy Bake frosting pen. My daughter had a ball using it, and can't wait to do more. I like that she can use it without help, and that it cuts down on the mess and is easy to clean. If your kids love doing things in the kitchen "just like mommy", they'll love this toy!

I ordered this for my[...] daughter because she always wants to help me decorate cakes, cookies, etc., but sometimes it's hard for her little hands. Now, she can help me with ease when using this decorating pen. She loves it. She even wanted to take it to her grandma's house where they decorated cupcakes like crazy!
