You've got to love combo kits, and this one might reign supreme in the contracting world. The king of recip saws, Milwaukee delivers here with their awesome cordless Hatchet Sawzall model with a six-position pivoting handle. The tool is only 13 inches long when fully pivoted, letting you cut between 16-inch on center studs, as well as between rafters and joists, with very aggressive orbital action. You'll like the super quick and easy blade changes, too. The 18-volt 6-1/2-inch circular saw easily cuts 2-by material at a 45-degree bevel in just one pass and packs plenty of power. The saw's excellent balance, all-metal upper and lower guards, and rigid aircraft aluminum shoe add durability you can feel. The soft-grip handle feels great in hand and dampens vibration. The hammer drill features reversible battery for working in tight spaces and, we think, better balance, too. The soft grip reduces pressure points and absorbs tool vibration, too--a nice feature considering the tool's got 495 inch-pounds of torque and up to 1,700 rpm. Last, the handy multiposition flashlight has a nice, strong beam and stays where you put it. Everything fits in the roomy, rugged bag-ready for transport when the work is done.I--Kris Jensen-Van Heste/I

5 out of 5 stars Great tools, but batteries can be an issue   March 6, 2006

I love Milwaukee tools. I grew up with Dewalt (which are good tools too) and then switched to Milwaukee after selling tools at Sears for three years. The power, toughness, the ease of use are wonderful. br / br /These tools are heavy, as well as the batteries. These tools were meant to be used. My Milwaukee tools have never let me down, but I get a workout using them. br / br /The batteries have been an issue, but not with me. My only complaint in after some time they are hard to take off the tool. However, I have known some people who have had battery issue. My batteries are 5 years old and they still have a good charge. The new V28 system will make up for any battery problem.

1 out of 5 stars Absolutely terrible batteries come with this set - and they're $$$   February 18, 2006

First off, the tools themselves are quite good, although there is definitely room for improvement. br /Hammer Drill: br /+ Great torque, good balance, solid chuck. br /- No place to store screw driver bits br /Overall a very good hammer drill br / br /Circular saw: br /+ Good balance, like the opposite orientation from older circular saws (i.e. this one works for right-handed folks). br /- The safety switch is sometimes awkward to engage. br / br /Sawsall Hatchet: br /+ Works well at cutting through stuff, adjustable handle is nice when it works. br /- Adjustable handle stops broke shortly after I started using it (they're plastic molded-in features on the case and aren't very sturdy). br / br /Batteries: br /+ They make good paper-weights br /- These are by far the biggest problem with this kit, and bad enough that I DO NOT recommend buying this set. After low to moderate use, one flat gave out, and the other holds maybe 20% of its original charge. I didn't abuse the batteries and they should have lasted much longer. The kicker is that replacements are $80 each! br / br /Conclusion: Maybe the new 28V Lithium-Ion batteries for the new Milwaukee sets work better, but don't waste your money buying any of their 18V sets.

1 out of 5 stars batteries border on fraud   December 29, 2005

The hatchet saw and drill are quality items, the circular saw is worthless. What makes the whole package trash is the batteries which are a joke. In 20 plus years of cordless tool use these are the worst Iv ever seen, used or heard of. Save your money and buy Makita of which the tool quality is as good and whose batteries are, no joke, 10 time better. D. Robinson

4 out of 5 stars Good kit   December 16, 2005

Overall a good kit. I'd say the best tool is the hatchet sawzall. I've used dewalt and makita 18v sawzalls and I think they're great too....but the hatchet just takes the cake. Milwaukee just makes the best sawzall...period. Very ergonomic and well weighted, powerfull, and very handy in tight, awkward spots. Also, it has selectable semi orbital cutting. The drill is very powerfull and good as a hammerdrill too. Circ saw works fine. br /OK, the only problems are the batteries are a bitch to get off the tools. Also, after about a year the two batteries that came with it are toast....and new ones are not cheap.

This is a fairly decent set of tools with a great warranty. I work in new construction installing air conditioning duct and equipment and when you need them, these toold are highly convenient. I wounld not be able to rely on them however because sometimes we cut quite a bit more than these tools are able to do. Within 2 months the sawzall shaft broke and it took Home Depot around 60 days to fix it, quite a disappointment. The drill broke at 6 months and I resoldered a brush not wanting to wait for warranty no-service. My friend bought the same set and his sawzall shaft also broke and a battery died with light, regular use. I have gone to a generator with corded tools but still use cordless whenever convenient. They just don't make tools like they used to and I wonder if any other brand is any better. I got the set for $360 on sale(with an extra battery) and would not pay $500 for the same set. I used the sawzall every day for 10 to 30 minutes a day, the drill I used to cut a 4" hole 3 or 4 times a day, the circular saw for 10 to 30 minutes also, five days a week. Circular saw is great for light cutting, battery time is good. Corded tools work better though for medium duty work.
